Tournament trophy for Thomas

Well done to FastStep Smashers player Thomas Broom for winning a trophy at the Mid Sussex Junior Badminton Tournament at the weekend.

Thomas played really well to claim runner up spot in the U10 boys doubles plate event.

Successful weekend for FastStep players

There were several reasons to cheer on FastStep players this weekend as the 2017 badminton calendar got underway.

In Gillingham on Saturday, Amy Radford and Casey Coats picked up a bronze medal at the Kent U18 Silver.

On Sunday two of our players made their season debuts for Sussex county team. Luke Peel played for the U14s against Herts and Monica Carr-Pacquay played for the U18s vs Berks. And both Sussex teams won! Well done guys.

Success for Monica and Amy

Congratulations to FastStep Elite players Monica Carr-Pacquay and Amy Radford for winning a silver medal in the girls doubles at the Herts U18 Bronze in December.

Amy also picked up bronze in the mixed doubles and Luke Davies reached the semis of the boys doubles to earn a bronze too.

Luke scores mixed silver in Kent

luke_kentu17While many of us relaxed over the bank holiday weekend, Luke Davies was busy battling it out on the badminton court and picking up a silver medal for his efforts.

Playing in the Kent U17 Bronze in Gillingham, Luke reached the final of the mixed doubles with partner Bea Noakes. In their box they squeezed past the top seeds 21-20, then in the final against another Sussex pair they lost out in extended play 22-20.

No rest this week either for Luke as he attends the 3-day FastStep Summer Camp alongside two other medalists from the Kent tournament, Scott and Robyn Haysom.

Jubilant July for FastStep Juniors

Some hard fought medals have been won by FastStep players this month.

Luke Davies won a gold medal at the Milton Keynes U17 Summer Bronze. A great start to the new season for one of our fast improving players.

Also in Milton Keynes this month there were bronze medals in girls’ doubles for Eva Craig (MK U18 Bronze) and Isabelle Craig (MK U14 Bronze).

Well done all. Keep working hard over the summer and the medals will flow in the autumn.

FastStep’s worthy winners at Worthing

A strong turnout of FastStep players at the Worthing Junior Badminton tournament resulted in a bag-full of trophies for our academy players.

IMG_1224 copyIMG_1241 copyThe day started with a FastStep vs FastStep clash in the boys doubles that was to decide the title winners. William Pieckielon and Elliott Lucas won the match against David Jolliffe and Dhanush Thiagaraj and secured the first FastStep gold of the day.

In the girls U15 singles, Cathy Tong cruised to the semi-finals, then battled through a tougher game to reach the final where she was finally beaten and picked up the runner’s up trophy.

In the U13 boys doubles, Ben Anthony and Luke Peel beat all but one pair to secure runners’ up trophies.

Our boys dominated the U15 singles event, with Harry Tree, Dhanush, David and William reaching the semi finals. In a close final, William emerged the winner 21-19, a great result as he’s been playing less than 2 years.

In the U15 girls doubles Cathy and a new partner teamed up and were runners up.

A brilliant day and great to see so many FastStep players, shirts and trophies!
