Double silver for FastStep in league final

FastStep’s U14 and U18 teams both finished runners up in the Surrey Plus junior badminton league final day in Epsom today.

The U14s started the day in joint first place out of 8 teams after the first event in January, but with the harder side of the draw to play.

They played brilliantly to beat Horsell A and Swifts B, then the crunch match versus Swifts A was always going to be close. We won the mixed and girls doubles and young Charlie Handel (2 years young) came within a point of winning the boys singles. The 3-2 defeat left FastStep runners up.

There was a similar story for the U18s, with 5-0 wins against all teams until the final crunch match against Swifts A. Amy Radford and Casey Coats managed a win in the girls doubles, but the other games were just too tough. The 4-1 defeat confirmed FastStep’s position as runners up.

FastStep reaches national awards final

FastStep Badminton Academy has been shortlisted for Club of the Year in the National Badminton Awards 2017.

Badminton England will announce the winner from the 3 finalists at a ceremony during the All England championships in Birmingham on 10th March.

We’re thrilled to be shortlisted for this prestigious award and will let you know the result once it’s announced!

Team success for FastStep in Surrey

FastStep U14 team
FastStep U18 team

FastStep Badminton Academy enjoyed a successful day at the first round of the Surrey Plus Junior Badminton League.

The U14 team were undefeated on the day, dropping only 2 rubbers across their 4 matches against other clubs from Surrey and Middlesex and ending the day joint top of the table.

Later in the day the U18 team played brilliantly to win their first 4 matches before meeting tournament favourites Swifts A. Amy Radford clinched the girls singles in 3, then Will Pieckielon took the boys singles to 3 and despite having a match point was narrowly defeated. Casey Coats and Elliott Lucas got off to a strong start in the mixed, but lost out in the third game.

Our U18 boys couldn’t match the strong Swifts pair in the doubles, but our girls fought brilliantly to a nail biting finish and secured the game, leaving FastStep defeated 3-2, but with the contest still wide open for the next round in April.

Tuesday is the new Friday at FastStep

Starting next week, there’s a new day in the week for junior badminton in Sussex. It’s all about Tuesdays!

We’re doing two exciting things:

  1. We’re moving our Friday 6-8pm Stars group to Tuesday 6-8pm. Yes parents, you get Friday night back!
  2. We’re starting a new match-based session also on a Tuesday 6-8pm. Finally there’s badminton for all junior players on a Tuesday in Sussex!

Both sessions are in Haywards Heath with a qualified coach. If you’re interested in our coached Stars session, or our match-based session please get in touch or call Andrew on 07590080998. Yey for Tuesdays!

FastStep welcome Forest friendly

starsvsforestFastStep Badminton Academy’s Stars group in Haywards Heath was pleased to host a friendly match with Forest Badminton Club from Horsham on Friday night.

With 23 players it was a game-packed evening and despite Forest edging the majority of the games, there were some great contests and brilliant rallies.

Well played everyone and we hope you enjoyed the evening.

Do get in touch if your club would be interested in a friendly fixture.

FastStep junior badminton club night launches

We’re excited to announce that we’re launching a new junior badminton club night in Haywards Heath this spring.

FastStep junior badminton club night is for players aged 12-18 who want to play games in a fun, relaxed environment.

Club night isn’t for total beginners (see our Smashers group for this level), but as long as you can play a decent rally of shots, you’re welcome!

Club nights are on Fridays 7-8pm at Central Sussex College, Harlands Rd, Haywards Heath and the cost is just £30 for the rest of the school year.

Come and try out our new junior badminton club night – let us know you’re coming and  your first session will be free!

FastStep will continue to offer coaching groups throughout the week (FastStep Badminton Academy) and players from the Academy will be encouraged to attend club night.
